Before eBay, before tutorials, someone made this by hand.
Large natural clam shell turned into a one of a kind art bowl. The rim is wrapped in tight cedar bark and raffia style weaving, then overlaid with hundreds of tiny glass seed beads in ruby red, peacock blue, amber and smoky topaz. Finished with mother of pearl shell buttons stitched with bead centers and 6 large foil backed carnival glass beads that catch the light.
No two alike. You can see the time in it. The interior of the shell is glossy natural white, the outside of the shell is left natural with soft ridges, the basket weaving covers the whole outer lip and holds tight.

• Era: True vintage, 1970s to 1980s folk art, pre eBay era
• Size: Approx. 8" long x 5.5" wide x 2.75" tall. Interior bowl about 6.5" x 4". Heavy for its size, solid shell
• Materials: Natural giant clam shell, woven natural fiber, glass seed beads, mother of pearl buttons, foil glass beads
• Condition: Excellent vintage. Weaving tight, no missing buttons, beads all intact. Light age patina to fibers as expected
Perfect as a jewelry catchall, trinket dish, coastal altar bowl, desk treasure bowl, or beach cottage display. Looks amazing on a stack of books or on a dresser.
This is artisan made studio craft, not mass produced. When it is gone it is gone.
