Vintage Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Opium Pillow - Reclining Boy with Double Dragons
Offered is a charming vintage Chinese porcelain headrest, often called an opium pillow or Chinese ceramic pillow.
This figural example features a reclining child / baby boy in a dotted robe, lying on his side and supporting a scalloped rectangular pillow top on his back. The top is beautifully decorated in raised relief with two 5-clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl among clouds and waves. The base and sides are decorated with continuous dragons and scrolling waves.
Classic blue and white transfer / hand-painted glaze with great detail on the face and robe. This is the sought-after "Opium Baby" form popular for Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, and Asian decor.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs noted. Some tiny brown kiln spots and light staining as shown, consistent with age and use. Please see all 9 photos for detail - ruler for scale included.
Measures approx. 6.5" long x 3" wide x 3.5" tall.
A wonderful decorative accent for a bookshelf, bedside, or chinoiserie vignette. Unmarked.
