Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
1950s-1970s Pressed glass, characterized by its intricate patterns created by pressing molten glass between two engraved metal molds, gained immense popularity in the mid-19th century and continued through the early 20th century. The 'Daisy and Button' pattern, first introduced by Hobbs, Brockunier & Co. in the 1880s, became one of the most recognizable and widely reproduced designs in American pressed glass. It was produced in various colors, including amber, and used for a multitude of tableware and decorative items. This particular item, a top hat-shaped toothpick holder, exemplifies the decorative and functional nature of pressed glass from this era. Manufacturers like Fenton Art Glass and L.G. Wright were known for their high-quality reproductions and original designs in pressed glass, often reissuing popular patterns. These small decorative pieces were common household items, serving a practical purpose while adding a touch of decorative flair to tables and shelves.
