Hi Everyone! I am from Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home.
Pressed glass, a technique developed in the early 19th century, allowed for the mass production of decorative glassware with intricate patterns. This method involved pouring molten glass into a mold and pressing it with a plunger, enabling detailed designs like starbursts and geometric motifs to be replicated efficiently. Amber glass, often achieved by adding sulfur or iron to the glass mixture, became particularly popular in the late 19th and early to mid-20th centuries for its warm hue and decorative appeal. Anchor Hocking, a prominent American glassware manufacturer founded in 1905, produced a vast array of pressed glass items, including serving dishes, bowls, and tableware, often in popular colors like amber. These pieces were designed for everyday use and special occasions, becoming staples in many households. The "Star of David" or starburst pattern is a recurring design in their pressed glass lines, signifying durability and classic American design.
